Working environment

Local government is constantly adapting to meet the government’s modernisation and improvement agendas, and the needs of local communities. As those communities evolve, there’s even more of an effort to engage with and provide tailored services for an increasingly diverse population. This work encompasses a wide range of areas and issues, including: children and young people; the environment; health and social care; housing; leisure and council; and community safety. Every day is challenging, and extremely rewarding.

All of which means that your opportunities on the ngdp will be immense. Councils are specifically looking for adaptable, resourceful graduates who will embrace and effect change. The environment is dynamic. It’s also extremely collaborative. So, expect to share information and liaise with many different groups – from consulting with local residents to working in partnership with other organisations. You’ll have your voice heard, and give a voice to others. What’s more, our strong commitment to diversity and supporting and developing our staff through flexible working policies means that you won’t just be valued as an employee: you’ll feel valued.
